Humboldt's Gift

Saul Bellow

SIGNED BY NOBEL LAUREATE SAUL BELLOW

BELLOW, Saul. Humboldt’s Gift. New York: Viking, (1975). Octavo, original half yellow cloth, original dust jacket. $1200.

First edition of Bellow’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, inscribed by him on the title page, “To Robert Hay, Saul Bellow.”

Awarded the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for Literature, Humboldt’s Gift is the eighth novel by “the most distinguished novelist of the post-war period in America” (Vinson, 124). It was Bellow alone who “managed brilliantly, in the words of Philip Roth, ‘to close the gap between Thomas Mann and Damon Runyon.’ In doing so, he capture a huge slice of American life… giving new immediacy to the American novel” (New York Times).

A fine inscribed copy.
