Close Range: Wyoming Stories

E. Annie Proulx

FIRST EDITION OF CLOSE RANGE: WYOMING STORIES, SIGNED BY ANNIE PROULX

PROULX, E. Annie. Close Range: Wyoming Stories. New York: Scribner, (1999). Octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket. $600.

First edition of Pulitzer-prize winner Proulx’s collection of stories, including the first book appearance of “Brokeback Mountain,” the inspiration for the lauded 2005 film, signed on the title page by Annie Proulx.

Proulx has said in an interview, “Place and history are central to the fiction I write, both in the broad, general sense and in detailed particulars. Rural North America, regional cultures, the images of an ideal and seemingly attainable world the characters cherish in their long views despite the rigid and difficult circumstances of their place and time, interest me and are what I write about.” Several of the stories collected here originally appeared in The New Yorker (including “Brokeback Mountain”), The Atlantic Monthly and GQ. Illustrated with six plates after original watercolors by Western artist William Matthews.

Only small closed cut to front flap of dust jacket. A fine signed copy.
