Remembering Laughter

Wallace Stegner

INSCRIBED BY WALLACE STEGNER

STEGNER, Wallace. Remembering Laughter. Boston: Little, Brown, 1937. Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $2500.

First edition of Stegner’s prize-winning first book, inscribed on the half title, “For Tony L—hman, this first little one. Wallace Stegner,” in scarce original dust jacket.

Wallace Stegner's complex, exuberant portrayal of two sisters in Remembering Laughter "turned upside down the stereotypical characters of the West" and won Stegner the publisher's prize for best short novel, inaugurating ""a literary career that covered more than 50 years… and won him the country's highest literary awards" (New York Times).

Text generally fresh with light scattered foxing, mainly to edges, small one-inch abrasion lightly affecting text (62-3), faint edge-toning to gilt boards; some chipping mildly affecting author's name at spine head, small closed tears along seams of scarce unrestored dust jacket. A very good copy, scarce inscribed.
