China Collector's Pocket Companion

Fanny Bury Palliser

“A PORTABLE BOOK OF MARKS AND MONOGRAMS IS A NECESSARY COMPLEMENT TO THE EXTENSIVE CERAMIC WORKS OF THE PRESENT DAY”

PALLISER, Fanny Bury. The China Collector’s Pocket Companion. London: Sampson Low, Marston, circa 1890. Small octavo, contemporary three-quarter red morocco, elaborately gilt-decorated spine, raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. $200.

Handsomely bound edition of this handbook for identifying and collecting china, with dozens of charts of marks and monograms to aid with easy identification.

Divided china into type (maiolica, earthenware, porcelain, etc.) and then subdividing it by country of origin, this work attempts, through tables of monograms and markings and annotations, to provide the collector with a helpful, reduced-size reference book. The first edition was published in 1874. Bookplate.

A few small closed tears and minor embrowning to text, light wear to binding. A handsome copy.
