Anne Morrow Lindbergh

INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY CHARLES LINDBERGH AND SIGNED BY ANNE MORROW LINDBERGH

LINDBERGH, Anne Morrow. The Steep Ascent. New York: Harcourt, Brace, (1944). Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $2800.

First edition, association copy, signed by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and inscribed by Charles Lindbergh: “To Mrs George Kennan From Charles A. Lindbergh 1949.”

“A fictional account of an actual incident…the story of a dangerous flight over the Alps made by a young couple.” The person to whom this copy is inscribed, Annalise Kennan, was the wife of George Kennan, better known as “The Father of Containment.” Kennan helped to craft the United States’ containment policy toward the Soviet Union and was largely responsible, through his writings, for the Truman Doctrine. Later, Kennan opposed the militaristic interpretation of his proposed policies and became one of the strongest realist critics of U.S. foreign policies. He came to be known as a leading liberal.

Book near-fine, with only faint discoloration to cloth. near-fine dust jacket with one tape repair to verso. A most desirable inscribed and signed copy, with an interesting association.
