Paul Iribe

BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED BY PAUL IRIBE

IRIBE, Paul. Rose et Noir. WITH: Bleu Blanc Rouge. Paris: Nicolas, (1931-32). Two volumes. Tall quarto, original printed paper wrappers. $1500.

Limited first editions of two promotional albums for the wine merchant Nicolas, each one of 500 deluxe copies printed, out of a total edition of 520 copies (20 numbered copies were printed on Japon), beautifully illustrated by Paul Iribe with 9 full-page tinted photographic prints and four lovely folding pochoir illustrations.

Two of three promotional albums published for the Parisian wine merchant Nicolas and illustrated by Paul Iribe, best known for his wide-ranging influence in fashion and his Art Deco costume, furniture, and fabric designs. Rose et Noir shows the terrifying effects of American cocktails on a newly married couple and contains nine fascinating full-page photographic images printed in pink, black, and white. Laid in is a booklet by René Benjamin entitled, "Dialogue Moderne en Trois Temps et Trois Cocktails," as issued. Bleu Blanc Rouge offers a rather amusing argument against foreign alcohols, taking on Russian vodka, German beer, British whiskey, and American Blue Rock mineral water each in beautiful folding pochoir illustrations, before presenting French wine in a mounted color plate. With Nicolas wine listing laid into Rose et Noir. Text in French.

Occasional faint foxing to text, only very light rubbing to extremities of oversized wrappers. A near-fine pair.
