Cory’s most noted ornithological work, The Birds of Haiti and San Domingo, was written after his visit to the West Indies in 1878. Thirty-two species of birds found on the islands are described, complete with synonymy, description and notes for each species. The large, beautiful plates depict the native birds in their natural habitat. “As regards the avifauna of foreign regions, the birds of the West Indies and Central America… have been primarily investigated and treated by North American ornithologists, as shown by a noble series of works… among the more outstanding… Cory’s Birds of Haiti and San Domingo” (Anker, 84). Corey became an honorary curator of the Field Museum in Chicago in 1893. Zimmer, 138. Sitwell, 87. Nissen 204. Occasional brief annotations in pencil.

Plates crisp and colors true, only the lightest scattered foxing. A beautiful copy.
