Turnabout

Munro Leaf

INSCRIBED BY MUNRO LEAF WITH THREE ORIGINAL SKETCHES

LEAF, Munro. Turnabout. Philadelphia and New York: J.B. Lippincott, (1967). Small quarto, original pictorial yellow cloth, original dust jacket. $350.

First edition, inscribed on the title page: “For Frank, In hopes he grows up to this. All the best from Munro Leaf,” with three original sketches including one of the book’s protagonist, Tommy Appleby, one of a woman captioned “Nan,” and one that is presumably a self-portrait of Leaf.

Written and illustrated by Munro Leaf of Ferdinand fame, this book follows a boy named Tommy Appleby into his dreams where he stands trial among the animals of the world for tying a tin can to a dog's tail.

Price-clipped dust jacket with minor soiling, a few tiny rub spots, and only slight rubbing to extremities. A near-fine copy, most rare and desirable inscribed thus and with three original sketches.
