Flea of Sodom

Edward Dahlberg

WARMLY INSCRIBED BY EDWARD DAHLBERG

DAHLBERG, Edward. The Flea of Sodom. London and New York: Peter Nevill, (1950). Quarto, original black cloth, original dust jacket. $900.

First edition of Dahlberg’s highly allegorical essays, inscribed, “For Munny & Joanne Gottlieb, who have a recondite understanding of mirth and companionship, which, like mirth, friendship & justice, are so out of season today—Our Affections, Edward & R’lene Dahlberg, March 10, 1951, N.Y.C.”

Writer Kay Boyle compared Dahlberg's work "to Kafka's in its intensity of discernment and foreboding… His language is classic, his metaphor frequently myth, but both language and myth belong to him alone." The highly allegorical writings in Dahlberg's Flea of Sodom, reveal "a poetry, concentrated, flashing from a hundred facets, such as exists nowhere else" (Foreword).

Book with expert repair to inner hinges; light edge-wear, tiny abrasion to front panel of bright dust jacket. An extremely good copy, scarce inscribed.
