Flood Victims of Harrisburg

Terry Husebye

SIGNED LIMITED EDITION OF HUSEBY’S FLOOD VICTIMS OF HARRISBURG

HUSEBYE, Terry. Flood Victims of Harrisburg. Madison: Pushpress, 1973. Large square quarto, original black cloth, original dust jacket. $3800.

Signed limited first edition of Husebye’s profound tribute to the survivors of the 1972 Harrisburg flood, number 17 of only 25 copies, with 19 mounted gelatin silver photographs mounted on heavy Strathmore Pastelle stock.

In June 1972, “tropical storm Agnes widened its destruction… [causing] what was termed the worst flooding in the history of the United States” at the time. Particularly hard hit was Pennsylvania’s capital city of Harrisburg, which “was virtually cut off with no electricity, its airport under water and major roads blocked” (New York Times). As photographer Terry Husebye notes here, “the flood was about the victims-human beings who overnight had lost everything.” Winner of a 1983 Guggenheim award, Huseby pays tribute to those who survived to fight back against the crippling devastation. In a signed limited edition of only 25 copies, this distinctive, handcrafted photobook features 19 gelatin silver prints, most measuring 4-1/2 by 6-1/2 inches, mounted on individual sheets of gray Strathmore Pastelle stock.

An exceptionally fine copy.
