First edition of this Eastman House retrospective, with 44 finely screened halftones, signed by Siskind.

Although Aaron Siskind began his career as a documentary photographer, the 44 full-page halftone images collected here are reflective of his interest in abstract expressionism. “We can only marvel that the most commonplace subject matter becomes poetic, and that the fragment becomes an artistic unit” (Beaumont Newhall). This retrospective of Siskind’s work was prepared for a comprehensive exhibition at the George Eastman House in 1965 and contains, in addition to his photographs, an informative introduction, two essays, and a statement by the photographer.
