Sam Shepard

Bruce Weber

INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION OF BRUCE WEBER’S SAM SHEPARD

WEBER, Bruce. Sam Shepard. (New York: Little Bear Press, 1990). Tall, slim quarto, original red cloth, mounted photographic cover illustration. $850.

First edition of Weber’s 23-plate photo-essay on Sam Shepard (“with special thanks to Jessica Lange”), inscribed on the title page, “For Liz and Andrew, Love, Bruce Weber.”

“Arguably the most influential contemporary fashion and celebrity photographer, Bruce Weber works in a style combining neoclassic mannerism (Beaton, Horst, Hoyningen-Huene) and naturalistic reportage” (Roth, 254). This candid photo-essay on contemporary American playwright, writer, and actor Sam Shepard, with occasional appearances by Jessica Lange, is accompanied by Weber’s conversational commentary, beginning “I had to get very drunk and turn off my Lightnin’ Hopkins tape…” The book was produced by Weber to benefit the Film Forum of New York City.

A fine inscribed copy.
