First edition of this comprehensive historical guide to places in Pennsylvania, with hand-colored folding map.

Purported by the publisher to be the first gazetteer of Pennsylvania, compiled from “minute and accurate topographical and statistical information… by visits to many parts of the state, by personal intercourse with official and intelligent gentlemen of every county, and by laborious research among the public records.” Historian Thomas Gordon also published a History of Pennsylvania (1829), and gazetteers for both New Jersey and New York.
