"A DEVASTATING CRITIQUE OF THE PEACE TREATY AND A BRILLIANT PIECE OF WRITING"
KEYNES, John Maynard. A Revision of the Treaty. London: Macmillan, 1922. Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell box. $1200.
First edition of Keynes's brilliant work on the problem of German reparations after World War I.
Keynes prepared this material as a supplement to his Economic Consequences of the Peace, which he published in 1919. Both works stemmed from Keynes' condemnation of the Allied policy of demanding heavy reparations from Germany; in protest he resigned from the post of principal representative of the British Treasury at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919.
Book near-fine, with minor discoloration to endpapers and rear joint repaired. Very scarce fragile dust jacket extremely good, with light wear to extremities, a few spots of soiling, mild darkening to spine, and one tape repair to verso. A handsome near-fine copy.
