Harry Truman

WARMLY INSCRIBED FROM TRUMAN TO ECONOMIST ISADOR LUBIN

TRUMAN, Harry. Photographic print inscribed. No place, circa 1950. Original black-and-white photograph, measuring 7 by 9-1/2 inches. Matted and framed, entire piece measures 11-1/2 by 14-1/2 inches. $1600.

Original black-and-white bust-length photograph of Harry Truman, inscribed on the mount: “To Dr. Isador Lubin, my friend and a real patriot with best wishes and kindest regards. Harry Truman.”

This photographic print shows Harry Truman sitting in the Oval Office, staring directly at the camera with his hands resting on his desk, a pencil and partially written letter in front of him. A groundbreaking economist and statistician, the recipient of this photograph, Isador Lubin, was an important member of both the Roosevelt and Truman administrations. He was instrumental in the creation of unemployment compensation and did a great deal of work on labor and corporations as Roosevelt's "favorite economist." During his later years with Roosevelt and with Truman, Lubin became increasingly involved with international relations and defense, leading the failed American delegation to the Allied Reparations Commission, advising on the Marshall Plan as Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, and serving as American minister to the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Photography studio signature reading "Hessler ©" on bottom left corner of image.

Photograph fine, mild fading to inscription, light wear to original frame. About-fine condition.
