Original black-and-white publicity photograph of influential blues artist Muddy Waters, inscribed, “To John, Muddy Waters.”

Born McKinley Morganfield, Muddy Waters fused the traditions of Delta and Chicago blues, becoming “one of the greatest, most influential and enduringly important musicians of the century” (Welding, Bluesland). In this bust-length photograph, Waters is before a microphone, smiling at the camera. Beneath the image is the printed notice, “Personal Management: The Cameron Organisation,” placing the photograph’s publication after 1971, when Waters hired Scott A. Cameron as his manager.
