“GO ON. GET THE BATH READY”: FIRST AMERICAN EDITION OF THE WOMAN WHO WAS NO MORE, THE BASIS FOR THE FILM DIABOLIQUE
BOILEAU, Pierre and NARCEJAC, Thomas. The Woman Who Was No More. New York: Rinehart, (1954). Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $2900.
First American edition of the classic tale that was the basis for the Clouzot film Diabolique.
First published in France as Celle Qui N’Etait Plus in 1952, it rapidly drew the attention of both Henri-Georges Clouzot and Alfred Hitchcock, but Clouzot secured the film rights. A disappointed Hitchcock then bought the film rights to their next, as yet unwritten novel, which he made into the film Vertigo.
Book fine. Dust jacket extremely good with only light wear to extremities and very minor soiling to rear panel.
