Most famous for such evocative documentary projects as Gypsies (1975) and Exiles (1988), Koudelka's later work emphasizes vast, panoramic landscapes over people. Humanity is nevertheless still present in these vistas; as an introductory essay notes, "Here [in these images of quarry sites] the hand of Man is everywhere.
