Young Conjuror

Will Goldston

SIGNED FIRST EDITION OF WILL GOLDSTON’S YOUNG CONJUROR

GOLDSTON, Will. The Young Conjuror. London: The Magician, [1910]. Tall, slim octavo, original dark green pictorial cloth gilt. $600.

First edition of tricks intended primarily for children, signed by Goldston and dated 1913, with photographic frontispiece collage of the Master performing his magic and in-text illustrations for nearly every trick.

The tricks and illusions in this collection were “carefully chosen from the point of view of simplicity of execution”— intended primarily for children. Goldston made his debut at age 17, as “Carl Devo.” By the time he was 20, he had become a solo magician, professional dealer, and manager of the “Conjuring, Theatrical, & Entertainment Departments” at Gamage’s Department Store in London. Goldston also founded “The Magicians’ Club,” acting as club treasurer alongside Harry Houdini, who served as president. With advertisements for Gamage’s front and rear.

Inner hinges with expert repair, faint inoffensive water stains to covers. A very good signed copy.
