COPLAND, Aaron. Passacaglia. Paris: Editions Salabert, circa 1923. Quarto, original printed wrappers; pp. 8. $500.

Early edition, signed by Copland over his printed name on the first page of music.

When Aaron Copland turned 20, he set off for Paris and “found a ‘powerful,’ ‘exhilarating’ teacher in Nadia Boulanger; he stayed with her until 1924 and recruited other Americans to join and follow him” (New Grove 4: 719). First performed by Daniel Ericourt in Paris in 1923, Passacaglia is dedicated to Boulanger.

Light toning. A fine signed copy.
