Aaron Copland

INSCRIBED BY AARON COPLAND

COPLAND, Aaron. Canticle of Freedom. (New York): Boosey & Hawkes, (1968). Quarto, original printed wrappers; pp. 52. $700.

Second and definitive edition of the full score, with substantial revisions by Copland, inscribed by him on the title page, “For Stuart Wright. Aaron Copland, 1977.”

Commissioned by M.I.T. in 1954 and first performed and published a year later, Canticle of Freedom sets to music the words of a 14th-century Scottish poem by John Barbour in a manner reminiscent of his earlier work using the American folk idiom.

Price sticker to title page. A fine inscribed copy.
