Weegee, born Arthur Fellig, immigrated to the United States in 1910 and taught himself photography, becoming a tabloid-news photographer for the Daily News, The Herald Tribune, and The Post. Known for his gritty, confrontational photos of the demi-monde in his Naked City (1945), Weegee “captured urban legend and the New York City underworld, while remaining a modern master of the art of photography” (Miles Barth).
