First edition of the first major retrospective of the acclaimed artist-author’s career, with 261 illustrations, including 94 color plates and an original Sendak pop-up, inscribed by him: “For Ginny. Maurice Sendak Jul 81” with a superb original sketch of one of his Wild Things (Moishe) saying, “Boo!"

Covering his best known works (such as Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen) as well as his youth in Brooklyn and his early work as an illustrator (for example, his advertisements for Jell-O), this lavishly illustrated chronicle of Sendak's career also includes three folding plates, a tipped-in facsimile of Where the Wild Horses Are (the first dummy for Wild Things) and an original pop-up illustration depicting a scene from "Little Red Riding Hood." Above Sendak's inscription is a presentation in another hand: "For Ginny—with gratitude for your inestimable valuable contributions to the center—from the staff and faculty and the scholarship committee. July 1981."
