On My Own

Eleanor Roosevelt

ON MY OWN, INSCRIBED BY ELEANOR ROOSEVELT

ROOSEVELT, Eleanor. On My Own. New York: Harper & Brothers, (1958). Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $1500.

First edition, presentation copy, of Roosevelt's post-White House memoirs, inscribed on the half title: "Inscribed for JoAnne Baruk(?) with good wishes, Eleanor Roosevelt."

With On My Own, Eleanor Roosevelt's last book of autobiography before her death in 1962 at the age of 78, she movingly chronicles her active life after the death of her husband in 1945. "Convinced that 'when you cease to make a contribution, you die,' she remained at the center of American and global politics for nearly two more decades… She became a fearless international champion of progressive causes and perhaps the most influential American woman of the 20th century" (ANB). With 16 pages of black-and-white photographic illustrations. With code "H-H" on copyright page. Edens B24.

Book near-fine, with interior generally quite nice and toning to cloth extremities. Dust jacket very good, with a bit of chipping to spine ends, wear including a few long closed tears, tape repair to verso, and a bit of toning to spine. A desirable inscribed presentation copy.
