Marvin K. Mooney

Dr. Seuss

FIRST EDITION OF THE SCARCE MARVIN K. MOONEY, INSCRIBED BY SEUSS

SEUSS, Dr. Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now! New York: Random House, (1972). Octavo, original pictorial boards, pictorial endpapers, original pictorial dust jacket. $5500.

First edition of this “Bright and Early Book” for Seuss’ youngest readers, a scarce inscribed copy: “for Selwyn C. Gamble with best wishes from Dr. Seuss.”

This book gained its widest recognition after Geisel gave Art Buchwald a copy with Richard Nixon's name replacing Marvin K. Mooney's throughout. Buchwald published the story in his syndicated column; Nixon's resignation soon followed (Dr. Seuss from Then to Now, 55). Younger & Hirsch 51.

A bright fine copy, scarce inscribed.
