Kent writes about the publication of one of his speeches: “Dear Sir: I return the M.S. a& Proof Sheets by the Steam Hudson as you requested. I have added a plain title page. I prefer the name of an address to that of an oration as containing rather less rhetorical pretension. The sheets were very correctly printed, & most of my few corrections are in the M.S… I have no introductory remarks to make, only what I have added to show that the publication is not my act. Yours very respectfully (signed) James Kent.”
