Early English translation of Lacroix's richly illustrated survey of the costumes and customs of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, with 19 brilliant chromolithographs and numerous woodcuts, beautifully bound.

LaCroix's magnificent survey explores the costumes and customs of the period, from food and cookery to games and pastimes, and from commerce, law, taxes, and punishments to the treatment of Jews and Gypsies. Many of the 19 richly-hued chromolithographs by Kellerhoven are facsimiles of illuminations in the finest medieval manuscripts. Translated from the French by James Dafforne. Originally published in France in 1847.

A splendidly illustrated and beautifully bound volume in fine condition.
