Limited edition, number 1041 of 1250 copies, with hand-colored frontispiece portrait and over 40 portraits (many steel-engraved), handsomely bound by Bumpus.

The life of "The Merry Monarch," covering his exile in Europe during Cromwell's Commonwealth, his restoration in 1660, and his rule after that until his death in 1685. The plates depict various images of Charles II, the fire of London, Nell Gwyn and the Duke of Monmouth, among others. Bookplate.

Light foxing, chiefly marginal; a bit of mild discoloration to morocco, gilt bright. Near-fine, handsomely bound.
