SHACKLETON, Edward. Arctic Journeys: The Story of the Oxford University Ellesmere Land Expedition. London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1937. Large octavo, original blue cloth. $2200.

First edition of Shackleton’s account of his Ellesmere Land expedition, in scarce original dust jacket.

Shackleton, explorer son of the famed Sir Ernest Shackleton, here describes his 1934-1935 journey with a team of young men (average age 23) deep inside the Arctic Circle. Profusely illustrated with 45 photographic prints, in-text illustrations, and five maps, including one folding map at rear. Bookplate.

Book near-fine, with slight foxing to edges of text block, a couple faint spots to cloth, and very mild toning to spine. Price-clipped dust jacket extremely good, with light wear and edges reinforced on verso.
