MaddAddam Trilogy

Margaret Atwood

"AN EPIC NOT ONLY OF AN IMAGINED FUTURE BUT OF OUR OWN PAST": THE MADDADDAM TRILOGY, PREFERRED CANADIAN FIRST EDITIONS SIGNED IN EACH VOLUME BY MARGARET ATWOOD

ATWOOD, Margaret. The MaddAddam Trilogy: Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam. (Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 2003-13). Three volumes. Octavo, original cloths, original dust jackets. $1000.

Preferred first Canadian editions of Atwood's dystopian trilogy, each signed by her on the title page, Oryx and Crake boldly signed, Year of the Flood signed and dated "December 6, 2009" in the year of publication, and MaddAddam signed and dated, "Sept. 15, 2013" in the year of publication.

In Oryx and Crake (2003), the first volume in Atwood's fascinating trilogy, she "leads us through a bioengineered world where a new species, the Crakers, has been invented by a Dr. Frankenstein figure—Crake—and given a chance at remaking the world." In Year of the Flood (2009), the second volume, "Atwood has brilliantly re-told her own tale, through other mouths and focusing on different details… she knows how to show us ourselves, but the mirror she holds up to life does more than reflect—it's like one of those mirrors made with mercury that gives us both a deepening and a distorting effect… In MaddAddam [2013], the third volume of Atwood's apocalyptic MaddAddam trilogy, she has sent the survivors of Oryx and Crake and Year of the Flood to a compound where they await a final showdown. But what gives MaddAddam such tension and light are the final revelations of how this new world came to be, and how the characters made their way to this battle for the future of humanity. Atwood has brought the previous two books together in a fitting and joyous conclusion that's an epic not only of an imagined future but of our own past, an exposition of how oral storytelling traditions led to written ones and ultimately to our sense of origin" (New York Times). First printings of the preferred Canadian first editions.
