Between Time and Timbuktu

Kurt Vonnegut

INSCRIBED BY KURT VONNEGUT

VONNEGUT, Kurt. Between Time and Timbuktu, or Prometheus-5. [New York]: Delacorte, (1972). Octavo, original three-quarter black cloth, pictorial silver paper upper board, original dust jacket. $3600.

First edition of this “experimental television script composed mainly of bits and pieces of stories written by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., over… 20 years,” illustrated throughout with photographs by Jill Krementz, as well as stills from the original March 13th, 1972 television broadcast, boldly inscribed by him on the half title: "For R— Kurt Vonnegut."

Based on the writings of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Between Time and Timbuktu was assembled for broadcast by National Educational Television in New York and WGBH in Boston. A satiric science fiction fantasy, it starred William Hickey as Stony Stevenson, "the first poet to be launched into space." The great Depression-era comedians Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding (of the comedy duo Bob and Ray) appeared as Mission Control announcers, and Vonnegut credits them with contributing original material to the script. Dozens of photographs of the production by Jill Krementz appear throughout the book, in addition to stills from the original broadcast. "First Printing—1972" stated on copyright page. Price-clipped front dust jacket flap with price in an unidentified hand.

Book fine; light edge-wear to spine head with small bit of tape reinforcement to verso of colorful near-fine dust jacket.
