Jack's Manual

J.A. Grohusko

"A HANDBOOK OF INFORMATION FOR HOME, CLUB OR HOTEL": SCARCE INSCRIBED PRESENTATION COPY OF JACK'S MANUAL, WITH MORE THAN 60 PAGES OF COCKTAIL RECIPES

(COCKTAILS) GROHUSKO, J.A. Jack's Manual on the Vintage and Production, Care and Handling of Wines, Liquors… Recipes for Fancy Mixed Drinks and When and How to Serve. New York: J.A. Grohusko, 1910. Octavo, original green cloth. $3600.

Early edition of this scarce early work on cocktails, with pages of recipes for classic "fancy mixed drinks"—a very scarce presentation copy inscribed and signed on the front free endpaper: "With my best wishes, from the Author, J.A. Grohusko, 1911."

Jack's Manual includes 17 pages on the different types of wine and liquor, and 61 pages of recipes for cocktails. With 21 pages of advertisements at rear for a variety of alcoholic beverages. In his introduction, the author refers to his "first issue" while calling this volume his "second attempt" to compile this manual, "the most complete of its kind ever issued." See Gabler G22260 for a later (1933) edition.

Interior generally clean, cloth with a few minor stains. An extremely good copy of this early cocktail book, most scarce and desirable inscribed.
