History of the Dress of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, 1625-1897

Reginald James Macdonald

WITH 25 HANDSOME COLOR PLATES OF MILITARY UNIFORMS

MACDONALD, Captain R[eginald] J[ames]. The History of the Dress of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, 1625-1897. London: Henry Sotheran, 1899. Quarto, original half white cloth with blue paper boards, uncut and largely unopened. $650.

Limited first edition, one of only 700 "subscriber's copies" (from a total edition of 1500), with 25 striking color plates.

Although the Royal Regiment of Artillery considerably predates the timeframe of this work, "there is no authentic information regarding the dress of the Artillery until the date of 1642. Uniformity in dress did not, however, come into vogue until much later, the first mention of any uniform of Artillery being in the year 1685" (from the Introduction). With tipped-in errata sheet.

Foxing to tissue guards and occasionally text, plates bright and fine; modest soiling to cloth spine, stain to rear board. An attractive copy.
