In this work Dalí took images from two late 19th-century textbooks and from the 1851 "Catalogue of the great exhibition of the works of industry of all nations" and transforms the illustrations; the first of these "metamorphoses" were executed in 1942 in New York. Dalí defined his paranoid-critical method as "a spontaneous method of irrational knowledge based upon the critical-interpretive association of delirious phenomena." With a two-page Introduction by the artist: "Contre la pornographie et l'obscénité pour le dieu Eros et l'érotisme." Text in French. Field 69-15. Michler & Löpsinger, Catalogue Raisonné 342 (original etching).
