“Illustrated Cabinet Edition” of Austen’s novels and letters, with frontispiece portraits of Austen in each volume of the Letters and with 30 delicate color plates by C.E. Brock, handsomely bound.

Includes Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Persuasion, Lady Susan, The Watsons, and Austen's letters. With color illustrations by Charles E. Brock, an outstanding illustrator of English classics who was widely acclaimed for "his unerring sense of period atmosphere and a flair for depicting character with a humorous sympathy" (Harthan, 239). Brock first created these illustrations for London publisher J.M. Dent in 1898. Includes a brief biography and overview of Austen's work in Volume I of Sense and Sensibility by critic and Yale professor William Lyon Phelps. Gilson E106.
