African Kingdoms of the Middle Ages. IN: Bulletin of African History

Eugene Feldman

"AFRICA'S PRESENT IS CHANGING… THE KNOWLEDGE OF AFRICA'S PAST HAS ALSO CHANGED"

FELDMAN, Eugene, editor and WESLEY, Charles H. African Kingdoms of the Middle Ages. IN: Bulletin of African History. Chicago: No publisher, circa 1961. Square octavo, staple-bound as issued, original pictorial cream self-wrappers; pp. 16. $200.

First edition of this special issue of a 1960s activist bulletin focusing on African history during the medieval era.

History teacher and civil rights supporter Eugene Feldman's Bulletin of African History was a free publication meant to showcase the accomplishments of people of African descent in the United States, Africa, and Latin America. This special issue reprints material from Charles Wesley's (president of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History) booklet, "The Changing African Historical Tradition." Feldman has embellished his edited version of Wesley's work with eye-catching illustrations by Chicago artist Jerry Walker. On the rear wrapper, Feldman also includes a solicitation for Chicago's Ebony Museum of Negro Art and History, which was then asking for the donation of archival material.

Faint vertical crease from folding, slightest soiling to rear wrapper, mild toning to wrappers. Near-fine condition.
