Signed limited first edition of Atwood's powerful conservation essay wonderfully illustrated by artist Billy Sullivan, one of only 100 copies (out of a total edition of 450 copies) handbound in cloth and signed on the title page by both Atwood and Sullivan.

Published in conjunction with the 2012 exhibition "Billy Sullivan: Bird Drawings," this work artfully combines Sullivan's striking drawings with Atwood's conservation-minded essay about birds. Atwood, the daughter of a naturalist, was an avid birdwatcher in Canada beginning in childhood and her multiple works related to birds reflect her affinity for them. Likewise, acclaimed modern artist Billy Sullivan (MoMA, the Met) has spent nearly 30 years watching and depicting the lives of the birds in his East Hampton backyard, assigning them the characteristics of friends or family. The total edition of 450 copies comprises 350 copies in wrappers and 100 deluxe handbound cloth copies signed by both the writer and artist (this copy).
