The publication of Tommyknockers led The New York Times to single out King's unique ability as a storyteller, noting that whether "King is… saying 'EEEOOOOOOARRRGHMMMMMMM!' or 'Hurts! It hurrrr-… or quoting Moby-Dick, we believe him."
