First edition of this annotated listing of the books in famed Scottish economist Adam Smith's library.

"Smith's library passed to the heirs of his nephew. Parts were contributed to New College, Edinburgh and Queen's College, Belfast; other books were sold. James Bonar compiled a catalogue of these and such other books as could be traced. This includes about 2200 volumes, or probably about two-thirds of the whole. The catalogue marks the passages in which Smith quotes the books named. Bonar also gives a plan of Smith's house at Kircaldy, a copy of his will, and an account of his portraits by J.M. Gray" (DNB). Library presentation label noting that this book is the gift of Dugald Bannatyne, a descendant of the eldest Dugald Bannatyne who bought and developed Merchant City in Glasgow.

Splitting at folds of facsimile letter, mild toning to interior, only light rubbing mainly to extremities. Near-fine condition.
