HAPPINESS IS A SAD SONG, INSCRIBED BY CHARLES SCHULZ AS "SPARKY" WITH AN ORIGINAL DRAWING OF CHARLIE BROWN
SCHULZ, Charles M. Happiness Is a Sad Song. San Francisco: Determined Productions, 1967. Small, slim quarto, original pictorial paper boards, original dust jacket. $3000.
First edition of this Peanuts book, warmly inscribed by Charles Schulz using his nickname, "Sparky": “For C—— with friendship—Sparky,” and with an original drawing of Charlie Brown.
After the success of 1962's Happiness is a Warm Puppy, the first Peanuts book to appear in a format of original text and illustrations on colored paper, Schulz created a line of similar quarto-sized books offering words of wisdom from the various Peanuts characters, including this one and 1964's Christmas Is Together-time.
Book fine, dust jacket near-fine with only light rubbing.
