Original 1893 commencement program for Philadelphia's Peirce School of Business and Shorthand, signed on the title page by President Benjamin Harrison, who delivered the Address to Graduates.

This is the 1893 graduation program for the 28th class of Philadelphia's Peirce School of Business and Shorthand (today Peirce College). Benjamin Harrison offered the "Address to Graduates" and is listed in the program. Harrison "was the president who appointed Theodore Roosevelt to his first national office, as civil service commissioner, and whose administration produced the Sherman Antitrust Act, the most important legislation of its kind in the nation's history. He deserves recognition as one of those devout, honest, sober leaders of the generation that founded the Republican party and as one who tried to keep the nation on an even keel through the turbulent years of the Gilded Age" (ANB). Harrison had completed his term as President in January of 1893 and delivered this commencement address in December of that year. Frontispiece portrait engraving of Harrison mounted and tipped in; the original front wrapper also features a portrait of Harrison as part of an illustrated vignette. An unsigned copy of this program resides in Benjamin Harrison's papers at the Library of Congress.

Scattered foxing and soiling to interior, faint dampstain to title page, minor vertical crease from folding of program, binding handsome. An extremely good copy, most desirable signed by President Harrison.
