CORAM, Robert. American Patriot. The Life and Wars of Colonel Bud Day. New York, Boston, London: Little, Brown, (2007). Octavo, original half blue cloth, original dust jacket. $400.

First edition of the gripping biography of the most decorated soldier in modern U.S. history, winner of the Medal of Honor and the Air Force Cross, among many other decorations, signed by Bud Day on the half title: “Col. Bud Day MOH–AFB.”

"During the span of his service to his country, through World War II, Korea, and then Vietnam, Day received every available combat medal and escaped death on no fewer than seven occasions…" After being shot down over North Vietnam, Day was captured and taken to the infamous Hanoi Hilton, where he was imprisoned with James Stockdale, Robbie Risner, Orson Swindle and John McCain. He would remain a POW for five years, seven months and 13 days. "It was Bud Day who helped his fellow soldiers survive in the most horrible conditions imaginable, who never broke under torture, who never let them forget that they were Americans."
