Escape from Alcohol

Donald W. Hewitt

"OH, GOD… TAKE AWAY THIS AWFUL CRAVING I HAVE FOR LIQUOR AND LET ME SERVE YOU FROM THIS DAY ON WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL"

HEWITT, Donald W. Escape from Alcohol. Mountain View, California: Pacific Press, 1953. Octavo, original pictorial paper wrappers. $350.

First edition of this mid 20th-century temperance classic.

A Seventh Day Adventist and temperance advocate, Dr. Donald W. Hewitt practiced health evangelism, asserting that believers needed to practice self-denial and adopt temperance in advance of the second coming of Christ. Hewitt viewed alcoholism as a community concern and the final chapter of his work is devoted to teaching people how to evangelize against alcohol. Hewitt's approach has had long-lasting popularity and Escape from Alcohol is still in print half a century after its first publication. Evidence of sticker removal from rear wrapper.

Light rubbing to extremities. A near-fine copy.
