Edward Stanford

LARGE 45 BY 31-INCH COLOR-PRINTED FOLDING MAP OF THE TURKISH EMPIRE JUST PRIOR TO THE GREAT WAR

(TURKEY) STANFORD, Edward. Stanford's Map of Part of the Turkish Empire with the Balkan Peninsula and Lower Egypt. London: Edward Stanford, May 1, 1914. Large folding map measures 45 by 31-1/2 inches, sectioned and mounted on linen. Housed in publisher's purple cloth slipcase with printed paper label. $2500.

Lovely large color-printed folding map of Turkey and the Levant, showing a crucial strategic region of the world a scant three months before the start of World War I.

This large map extends from the Balkans across to the Caspian Sea and Persia (Iran) and Ukraine and the Caucasus down to the north African coast, the north of the Arabian peninsula and the Persian Gulf. Sectioned and mounted on linen at a later date, retaining publisher's advertisements, which have been mounted to the folded end sections of map.

Expert repair to small hole in slipcase and corresponding tears to outer margin of two sections, not affecting map image. A near-fine copy.
