Corrida at San Felíu

Paul Scott

SIGNED BY PAUL SCOTT

SCOTT, Paul. The Corrida at San Felíu. London: Secker & Warburg, (1964). Octavo, original red cloth, original dust jacket. $325.

First edition of this novel by the author of the Raj Quartet, signed by him on the title page.

"This is a novel about a novelist's notes for a novel about a novelist writing a novel about himself as a painter and a cuckold" (Kirkus). While India and Burma serve as the setting for many of Scott's novels, much of the present novel takes place in Spain, with the titular corrida, or bullfight, as the centerpiece of the text. "The wonder is that all this action painting builds to a unified effect; but it does, as in certain Italian movies using a like technique. Even for a reader without patience, this novel is a fine place to sight-see in. The locale is chiefly India and Spain, both of which Mr. Scott knows absolutely and renders to the pore" (New York Times, 1964).

Two small stains to fore-edge of text. A fine signed copy.
