Wilder's last novel, set mainly in Newport, Rhode Island, Theophilus North was the basis for the 1988 movie Mr. North starring Anthony Edwards and Anjelica Huston. Wilder died two years after publishing this work. Simultaneously issued with the first trade edition and the "first special edition," an unknown number of copies "reserved for friends of the Author and the House." Schumacher 13.
