Autograph postcard - Signed

Vanessa Bell

"IT ALL SEEMED RATHER A SCRAMBLE—BUT A WELL ARRANGED SHOW"

BELL, Vanessa. Autograph postcard signed. Charleston, Firle, October 29, 1959. Postcard, measuring 3-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches. $650.

Autograph postcard signed by the artist Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf's sister and a central member of the Bloomsbury Group.

The postcard, addressed by Bell on the verso to "Miss Monica G. G——" at "11 Toronto Terrace, Lewes," reads in full: "Charleston Firle. Thank you for your letter and enclosure. I shall try to go to see the exhibition but am not sure if I shall be able. I am sorry you could not speak with at Eastbrooke the other day—it all seemed rather a scramble—but a well arranged show. Vanessa Bell." Charleston was Vanessa Bell's country house in the village of Firle in East Sussex, which she bought in 1916; she lived there on and off until her death in 1961.

Pencil notation on verso.

A few spots to recto. Near-fine condition.
