Robert Penn Warren

SIGNED LIMITED EDITION OF THIRTY-SIX POEMS, ONE OF 165 COPIES SIGNED BY ROBERT PENN WARREN

WARREN, Robert Penn. Thirty-Six Poems. New York: Alcestis, 1935. Octavo, original cream paper wrappers, uncut, original glassine. $2500.

Signed limited first edition of Warren's first book of poetry, number 93 of 145 copies signed by Robert Penn Warren and printed on Strathmore Permanent All-Rag Paper (out of a total edition of 165 copies).

Lauded by Newsweek reviewer Annalyn Swan as "America's dean of letters and, in all but name, poet laureate," Robert Penn Warren made his first foray into crafting a full-length poetry book with Thirty-Six Poems. A contemporary New York Times review read: "Sound is this poet's great delight, sound of word and of line. He restrains his use of alliteration and assonance by the use of the spondee of the wrenched accent to give sharpness to the line. Robert Penn Warren has originality." Only 165 copies of this signed limited edition were issued, 135 copies for sale, 20 for presentation and ten for review. Without slipcase.

Slight staining and wear to extremities of glassine. Book about-fine. A most desirable signed copy.
