"The best seller in cookbooks for over 100 years" (Feret, 36), Glasse's cookbook gave "to inexperienced readers trying their hand at the more adventurous dishes" (Quayle, 69). Amid more commonplace fare are recipes for "catchup to keep twenty years," "The Jews way of preserving salmon," and instructions on "how to pickle ox-palates" and "how to make portable soop."
