Eighteen-Nineties

John Betjeman

ONE OF ONLY 60 COPIES SIGNED BY JOHN BETJEMAN

(BETJEMAN, John) KRISHNAMURTI, G. The Eighteen-Nineties. A Literary Exhibition September 1973. Supplement to the Catalogue. London: The Francis Thompson Society and The Enitharmon Press, 1974. Octavo, original marbled boards, top edge gilt. $275.

Signed limited first edition, number 28 of only sixty copies signed on the limitation page by both Betjeman and Krishnamurti.

Betjeman was well-known for his advocacy of Victorian architecture, and his interest in Victorian culture in general: in 1958 he was one of the founding members of the Victorian Society. In his foreword Betjeman "recalls how he became acquainted with Lord Alfred Douglas and describes the growth of his interest in other 'nineties' writers, especially Anthony Hope Hopkins and Theo Marzials" (Peterson B127).

A fine copy.
